RELATE

making science communication a conversation

Campus & Community Partners

Rackham Graduate School

The Rackham Graduate School at the University of Michigan has been indispensable to the success of RELATE. By believing in our mission from the outset and providing us with both financial resources and personnel, RELATE was able to become the first science communications training program of its kind at Michigan.

We're excited to continue our partnership with Nerd Nite Ann Arbor! It's a match made in heaven: they have an amazing space for science (and other nerdy) communication, and they welcome RELATE speakers to the NNA2 stage! Over 15 RELATE speakers have taken the Nerd Nite stage for rousing discussions on the science of everything from obesity to fear to bubbles to LEDs.

Since 2016, RELATE has partnered with the Michigan State University Science Festival and Nerd Nite Ann Arbor to host special events during each year's April Festival!  These science-only nights have featured amazing speakers discussing science across the spectrum. The 2017 event is scheduled for April 20 at LIVE (102 S 1st Street, Ann Arbor). Hope to see you there!

In 2015, RELATE worked with AAAS to bring a science communication on social media workshop to the University of Michigan. AAAS Public Engagement Manager, Jeanne Braha, gave a public lecture on the importance of social media in science communication followed by a practice-based workshop for a select group of participants.

English Language Institute

ELI at the University of Michigan is a valued partner in our training process. The Institute has extensive experience in interactive instruction on communication with a focus on extensive feedback. Their participation has added significantly to the success of our practice sessions for participants in the summer workshop.
